The Australian Curriculum provides the basis for programming, planning and assessing at Lihir International School/School to Mine and the school is able to provide this due to a licensing agreement with Education Queensland International. In High School, learning also incorporates the PNG Curriculum to ensure students are prepared for the Year 8 and 10 National Exams.

The school is audited each year to ensure the high expectations of the licensing agreement are met and teachers access quality Professional Development to ensure teaching and learning at Lihir International School/School to Mine continually improves and keeps pace with education delivered in Australian schools.

Outstanding teaching and learning is evident in all curriculum areas.

There are currently 9 Learning Areas:

  • Mathematics
  • English
  • Science
  • HASS
  • Technologies
  • Health and Physical Education
  • Languages (PNG Studies)
  • The Arts

In Years 7/8, students study the above subjects, with the subject “Making a Living” instead of PNG Studies. In Years 9/10, the following subjects are also taught: Business Studies, Computer Studies and Work Studies.

Underpinning the implementation of the Australian Curriculum at Lihir International School/School to Mine is the continual focus on developing socially responsible and respectful students by promoting personal excellence and values for a positive and successful future.

Physical Education is taught to all school classes by a specialist PE teacher throughout the week.

Tok Pisin, the local PNG language, is the language other than English taught at our school.

The school features a range of extra curricula activities for children and these include sport, Art and Technologies.  The school accesses specialists throughout the year in areas such as Speech Pathology, Educational Psychology, Special Needs, Sport and Growth and Development.
