Week 7 – Term 1 2022

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

There will be a School Council meeting at 7pm on Thursday, 24th March in the Meeting Room. All our Councillors are encouraged to attend. If you are interested in finding out more about the School Council, please give me a call or make a time to come in for a chat.

Parent / Teacher Interviews

Parent / Teacher interviews for all classes from Prep to Year 10 will be held between 3.00pm and 6.00pm on Monday the 28th and Tuesday the 29th of March. Interviews are for 15 minutes. Bookings will be open from Monday and parents can either come into the office, call or email Mrs Romaso-Daimol (Lorna.Romaso@Newcrest.com.au) to make their appointment times. Mrs Collins will advise Kindy parents of interview times.

LIS PNG Independence Celebrations 2022

Thanks to those parents who attended the meeting last Saturday. An Independence Organizing Committee was formed, and we would like to thank Mrs Fiona Karaut and Mrs Esther Taune for taking the lead in this year’s Independence celebration for LIS.

Library and Text Books

There have been some incidents of careless and unnecessary damage to school library and text books when they have been taken home. It is very costly to source and supply students with these resources on Lihir. We ask parents and carers to keep an eye on these school resources when used at home. Parents and carers will be charged replacement costs for damaged or lost books.

Absenteeism and Lateness

If your child is going to be absent from school or is sick, please give the school a call or send an explanatory note with your child upon return to school. If your child is away for more than two days, parents are required to contact the school.

Children who arrive to school in the morning after assembly begins are considered late. If your child is going to be late, please inform the school in advance, or send an explanatory note with your child. Parents will be contacted for unexplained absences.

School Camps and Trips

With the reduction of Covid 19 cases and relaxing of restrictions, the school will restart its camps program for 2022. Planned camps are:

  • Year 8/9 (postponed in 2021) NGI/ POM  – Week 3 Term 2
  • Year 5/6 Local and Provincial Government – Term 3
  • Year 10 Transitions – Term 4

More information will be sent closer to the dates of the camps.
