Week 8 Term 2 2019

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

The LIPS Netball Carnival was held last weekend. LIPS was represented by a junior, senior and ladies team, we hosted visiting junior, senior and ladies teams from OLSH, Kavieng and also, for the first time, we had a Marahun senior team join the competition. It was a great weekend of netball and, although at times the weather was a little hot, the rain stayed away. There were many strongly contested games and great netball action. I am sure spectators were impressed with the high standard of play plus the growth shown over the two days by the beginning players.

Results:

Ladies – Out of the four games, Lihir ‘Sweetlips’ was victorious in three! This team showed promise right from the get-go with accurate goal shooters, quick attack and strong defense. Thanks also to the Lihir ladies who helped out the OLSH team as they were low on numbers.
Senior division – The LIPS A team are to be congratulated for the strong and consistent performance throughout the two days, winning all six games. Most of this team played together last year and have really become a strong team through their hard work at training. Congratulations to Bertilla Sigere who was named the LIPS A Best and Fairest player.

Junior division – Although the LIPS B team didn’t manage to catch the OLSH team in their five games, in each game they got closer and become more close-knit as a team. Most of this team consisted of beginning players so it was fantastic to see the growth over the two days. We know they will continue to improve for next year. Congratulations to Katie Kamong who was the LIPS B Best and Fairest.

It was great to see the involvement from the LIPS community. We thank everyone who participated, scored, umpired, worked in the canteen and came along to support the players.
