Newcrest Mining LTD has endorsed the extension of schooling at LIPS to include Year 8. This decision allows for PNG National children to sit for the PNG Year 8 National Exams and receive their Basic Certificate of Education. The move also complements our current Year 7 in offering a solid middle school program.
Over the next few months, we hope to have everything in place to begin Year 8 in 2018. Education Queensland is supportive of the move and will assist us in organising our curriculum to include Year 8. We will be utilising the Science Room at the Resource Centre for science classes. Negotiations have already begun with the Provincial Education Board for appropriate approvals.
Parents of current Year 7 students are asked to continue with their plans for enrolment in other schools for 2018, in case the approval process becomes lengthy – which we hope will not be the case.
