Our school’s 2016 Athletics Carnival, on Wednesday 15th of June, is fast approaching and all students are showing a positive approach to their training.
The carnival is divided into two distinct sessions with the morning session beginning with the long run, for all school aged children, followed by a focus on field events of long jump, discuss and shot put for students eight years and older and high jump for students nine years and older – these events are held in line with Australian Little Athletics standards and the day will follow the program of previous athletics carnivals at Lihir International Primary School.
The morning session will conclude at around 10:30am (dependent on weather conditions) after which children will return to class before being dismissed from school at 12:45pm. Students are required to return to school by 4:20pm as the twilight session events will commence at 4:30pm.
During the next week Mr King will be working with students to decide which events students wish to compete in. Children are encouraged to participate in all events; however, they do have the choice to withdraw from events prior to the athletics carnival.
Due to safety reasons all children must wear shoes when competing. We will make our best effort to ensure there are no sharp objects on the oval; however, this cannot be guaranteed and therefore the safest option is for all children to be wearing suitable shoes.
A detailed athletics carnival program is attached to this Toksave and we look forward to seeing many families for the twilight events. Following completion of the carnival, presentation of age group winners and the Wessely Athletics Shield, I invite all school families to join us for a barbeque dinner.
